Heard It Here First
I'm
here to talk about six teams that are going to disrupt
the preseason rankings and surprise the hell out of
the big time teams and conferences everywhere. Memphis,
Wisconsin, Kansas State, Auburn,
Maryland and Texas might not be on anybody's
top five lists, most won't even crack the top 10,
with one that won't even start out the season in the
top 25. But don't hesitate to put your money on these
six squads. Anyone can tell you that Oklahoma,
USC, Miami, and FSU are going
to win games, but with spreads that stretch over five
touchdowns, where's the money in that? Listen closely,
and stack the odds in your favor. Bet on these teams
to win and you won't catch yourself kicking your TV
off its stand because Oklahoma didn't beat
Texas A&M by the 42 point spread.
(Rankings are from the Associated Press as of September
2)

Auburn (17)
Auburn was ranked #1 last year in Sporting News' pre-season
poll. So that didn't turn out so well. But this year
they're underrated at #17. These Tigers have two of
the top two senior running backs in the entire nation
with Carnell Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown. Cadillac
ran for 1,300 yards and 17 touchdowns last season.
Many scouts have him going in the top five of next
year's draft. Senior quarterback Jason Campbell has
shown improvement in camp, he's a leader and a winner.
New offensive coordinator Al Borges has installed
a balanced West Coast offense and the passing game
is sure to benefit. The NFL draft and graduation took
five of Auburns front seven including first round
pick and the heart of the defense Karlos Dansby. They'll
be hard pressed to find a replacement as good as him,
but they'll be ok. This Tiger team possesses lots
of speed, and their young athletes will surely make
things happen. With a strong running game, possibly
the strongest in the nation, Auburn will have no problem
controlling the ball and limiting the snaps their
defense will be on the field. This will keep them
fast the entire game, and help them into the top ten.
Look for Auburn to win plenty of big games this season.
